we came at a good time

we decided it would be a good day to tour asuncion. all of our internship supervisors are gone, and we have plenty change in our pockets to get us to el centro and back. guess what's neat about this time of year/this year in paraguay? they are celebrating their 200 year of independence. people here celebrate it every single day for about a mon th. so when we got to el centro, there was dancing, parades and empanadas everywhere. i enjoyed them all. my empanadas was 3000 guaranis (about 75 cents) and it was super fried, with cheese and ham. the best part was that the recipe is no secret , they are happy to cook it in front of my eyes, on the road. the coolest thing i saw today was a paraguayan bottle dance. the girls would wear beautiful lacy dresses with bottles on their head. i had to keep taking pictures because they kept adding bottles. a girl was eventually dancing with 12 bottles balancing on her head!

a hot bus ride

anyone want a cheap awesome roller coaster ride? these buses here are insane! 50 cents to travel around the city. you wave a bus down, pay the driver the money, he looks down at it and counts it as he is flooring it, and then hands you a little ticket. i don't know why there is a white line in the middle of the road. it's like an aesthetic, not necessary, just nice. vendors walk on and off yelling coooka, manzana, peraaaa.... and people buy little snacks. it is also HOT HOT HOT and HUMID HUMID HUMID. i came at a good time because it is their fall season and it gets about 29C (i think that's about 85F). they said that the hottest it gets is around 45C and to my understanding it's about 113F. while i was working, i saw a beer ad, multiple beer ads, they were icy and beautiful. it looked so refreshing, i was really tempted to buy one. this is the first time in a long time i was swayed by an advertisement. my hair: crazys. i don't want to wash it brush it touch it. whic

we made it.

SAFELY. almost can't believe it. i was close. story behind that is that i was in arizona for the weekend to watch one of my favorite bands in concert. edward and the mag-ne-tic-zeros. left at 9:30 pm monday night, arrived in provo at 9:00 am. scrambled some things together and enjoyed a last hearty breakfast of yogurt and a poppyseed muffin. mamalita and maya picked me up at 11:00, air plane left at 2:30 on tuesday, april 26, 2011. this is laura and me waiting to board our first flight and the morning light from my window. on my flight from buenos aires to asunción i sat next to a very nicenicenice brazilian woman named Magarida. we communicated in english, portuguese and spanish. neat things were happening in that conversation. when i left, we said goodbye with a kiss on the check. i love latin america. arrived in asunción, paraguay at 18:00 (6:00 pm) april 27, 2011. NOW TO WORK. and a lot of work needs to be done. i will be working with IKATU which means "you can do it"
