City of Colors

AREGUA

known for it's ceramics. ceramic chimes, ceramic frogs,  ceramic hello kitties, ceramic shreks, ceramic fionas, ceramic virgins, ceramic bears, ceramic etc. as one would walk down the little artisan market they could peek to the back of the shop and spy on the painters painting little piggy banks.

i walked down the street 4 or 5 times just enjoying the array of colors.

and then these men serenaded me with songs of amor

then we met up with Rodrigo. he works for Fundación in the Luque office. he gave us a tour of Aregua.

FIRST STOP was the police station. Rodrigo wanted to show us a little hill with a mysterious rock formation, but we had to be accompanied by the police. apparently really bad guy men hide in the brush and attack people on the hill with dangerous things. so the police picked us up on a pick up truck and drove up the hill. i felt safe.

perantly, this rock is extremely rare. only exists in three places on the entire planet.
1. Paraguay
2. Canada
3. South Africa

our fearless guide PEDRO
he wanted to show us everything. all the different views of the rocks, a view of the cities, and wanted to show us all the wasps that lived there.

Ton, Anne, Tad, Isabel, Rodrigo, & Meekahh

after the hill of rocks we went to Lake Ypakarai. we sat at the beach side for a while and i met an american family there (i think they are the first americans i've seen here). then we went for a five minute row boat ride. the man must have been 50... 60? and said he has been rowing this boat for 20 years.

the indians here believe that this is the CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE. the existence of life started here. for a second, Mika was the center of the universe.

Rodrigo and Me

and it just happened to be the stickiest day of my life.... my money was even wet. grosssies. so the only remedy i know is Paraguayan ice cream. a scoop of passion fruit on top of a scoop of peach with a cone, under the shade cost me a whooping 75 cents.

to end the day: ate some apple sauce cake made by Isabel (added another recipe to my collection), went swimming in a green swimming pool, and watched Tangled.

my favorite saturday in Paraguay.
